Nadim Bachir Gemayel, son of former Lebanese President Bachir Gemayel was born on the 1st of May 1982 in Bikfaya, Mount Lebanon. Nadim Gemayel is a leading member of the Kataeb Party, founded by his grandfather Pierre Gemayel in 1936, and he currently serves as Vice President of the Party’s Achrafieh District.
A leader among Lebanese youth, Nadim’s struggle for freedom, notably against the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, began during his university years and culminated in the Cedar Revolution of 2005. Nadim was at the forefront of Lebanon and the Middle East’s most influential demonstrations, which led to the country's second independence.
Nadim holds a French Master of Law from the University of Paris II, and a Lebanese Masters in Civil Law from the Lebanese University.
Currently Nadim is a candidate for the upcoming June 2009 parliamentary elections and will be running for office in Beirut’s 1st district. Nadim embodies the aspirations of many young men and women, and represents the new face of Lebanese politics.
Early Life and Education
Nadim Gemayel was born in Bikfaya on the 1st of May 1982 to Solange Toutounji and Bachir Gemayel. The Gemayel and Totounji families are both prominent Maronite Christian families of Lebanese origins.
Nadim is the youngest to two sisters, Youmna born in 1980 and Maya in 1978. Maya was only 18 months old when she was tragically killed in 1980 by a car bomb that was intended for her father.
Nadim’s father, Bachir Gemayel, was a prominent Christian Lebanese leader who was elected president of the Lebanese Republic in 1982. Bachir was assassinated on the 14th of September 1982, 21 days after the elections. Nadim was only four months old.
Following high school, Nadim moved to France in 2000 to pursue his education. He graduated from the Pantheon-Assas Paris II University with a degree in law in 2004. He moved back to Lebanon in 2005, and continued his education at the Lebanese University, from which he graduated with a degree in Civil Law. Following his graduation, Gemayel moved on to practice law with a prominent law firm which maintains offices in Lebanon and Qatar. Nadim moved to Qatar in 2007 and continued working with the same firm. He returned to Lebanon one year later.
